TINTON FALLS, N.J. (AP) - Officials say firefighters in New Jersey rescued a man after 16,000 pounds of granite fell on him.
The Asbury Park Press reports (https://on.app.com/1AYmkKx ) two pallets of stone fell on the man as he was working inside a shipping container in Tinton Falls Wednesday morning. Fire officials say the stone pinned the man for hours by his head between a wall of the container and a pallet.
Pine Brook Community Hose Company Chief Darell Harris says the man was spared by a piece of wood that landed between him and the stone.
Officials say firefighters reinforced a side of the container, cut a hole in it and got the man out just before 3 p.m.
He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Authorities didn’t release the man’s name.
