SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A South Texas police officer charged earlier this month with trying to shoplift ammunition has been arrested again in another off-duty theft case.

San Antonio police say Officer David Nieto was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly trying to steal items from a Wal-Mart.

Sgt. Javier Salazar on Thursday said Nieto faces charges of misdemeanor theft and fraudulent destruction/concealment of writing. Online jail records did not immediately list information on Nieto.

The 31-year-old Nieto was put on administrative leave following his May 5 arrest after allegedly trying to steal ammunition from a sporting goods store. Nieto had his children, ages 1 and 3, with him during that incident.

Nieto has been a San Antonio police officer for three years.
