NEW YORK (AP) - New York Senator Charles Schumer has recommended a veteran prosecutor to fill the post vacated by new U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Schumer announced Thursday that he has asked the White House to pick Robert Capers to head the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s office.

The 44-year-old Capers is currently senior litigation counsel in the Brooklyn office. He’s worked there since 2003.

Capers was born in the Bronx and earned his law degree from Albany Law School in 1996. His father was a New York Department detective and his brother is an NYPD officer.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said Thursday that neither the office nor Capers were commenting.
