TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Authorities continue to search for an inmate who walked away Tuesday afternoon from the Lee County Work Center in downtown Tupelo.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1EH7ngK) 23-year-old Montecuz Montez Goliday, of Verona, was working off fines from Tupelo Municipal Court.

He was scheduled to be released from jail next month.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the work center only houses prisoners convicted of misdemeanor crimes where there was no victim of violence - things like fines, failure to pay child support and driving under the influence.

When captured, Johnson says Goliday face a felony that carries a sentence of five years in prison.
