PARKLAND, Wash. (AP) - A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a 19-year-old man has been fatally shot during a dispute at an apartment building in the Tacoma suburb of Parkland, Washington.

KOMO-TV of Seattle reports (https://is.gd/T4lPav ) the man was shot Wednesday night at the Concordia Arms Apartments.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the young man arrived and got into a confrontation with a tenant. Witnesses say the 19-year-old threatened to “shoot up” the apartment and beat the tenant.

Troyer says the tenant locked his door but the intruder began kicking and pounding on it. The spokesman says when the 19-year-old tried to force his way into the apartment, the tenant grabbed his legal, registered gun and fired a single shot, hitting the intruder in the chest.

The man who was shot was not immediately identified.
