ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - St. George Police Department officers will begin wearing body-mounted cameras this week.
The Spectrum reports (https://bit.ly/1Hj8Mky ) that Sgt. Sam Despain says the department is expecting about 70 body cameras to be delivered this week. He says they are in the process of getting the software programmed and training officers to use the cameras.
The LaVerkin and the Santa Clara-Ivins City police force, as well as the Iron County Sherriff’s office, have already been equipped with body cameras, but St. George will be the largest law enforcement agency in the two counties to use them.
A law passed by the Legislature that went into effect Tuesday requires agencies that have body cameras to use them in situations that may require an element of force, such as serving a search warrant.
