SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A state agency is soliciting public comment on its draft long-range transportation plan for New Mexico.

The Department of Transportation says the plan will guide the department and other planning agencies by setting goals and strategies for the next 20 years.

The department says funding constraints dictate taking a “preservation first” strategy that emphasizes maintaining existing assets. It also establishes a tiered system to focus on projects and facilities considered most critical for the movement of people and goods.

The department says comments can be submitted through its web site, via email or at upcoming public meetings.

The public comment period runs through June 26,.
