VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - A Valparaiso University student charged with faking a hostage situation at the college, sparking a large emergency response, is scheduled to make an initial court appearance.

Twenty-year-old Michael Clemens of Chesterton is scheduled to appear Friday on felony counts of intimidation and false reporting. The Times of Munster reports (https://bit.ly/1FnCQLv ) pleas of not guilty are expected to be entered.

A trial date also is expected to be set.

Court records show defense attorney Gary Germann already has already successfully asked the court to instruct the county sheriff’s department and Valparaiso police to preserve recordings of 911 calls placed on the day of the event April 21 and a few days later on April 24.

Police say a man called police saying had a gun and had taken hostages.
