CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - The man police say stabbed an officer and was shot five times is incompetent to stand trial according to a psychiatric evaluation.

The Canon City Daily Record reports (https://bit.ly/1cXz4vZ) Hudson Taylor Clark is in Department of Human Services custody after his assessment was made available to the court Wednesday.

Clark’s family contacted police Dec. 6 saying he had left his Penrose home and was mentally disturbed.

Cañon City Police Department Chief Paul Schultz says a police supply store clerk said the man pulled a knife on him and stole a gun holster.

Cpl. Andrew Sanders found Clark about 10 minutes later. Sanders sustained a stab wound and shot Clark five times.

Clark will be back in court Aug. 12 for a competency review hearing.
