Waste Management building compressed natural gas facility

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Waste Management of Louisiana has begun construction on a compressed natural gas facility in Walker.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1Pk2xkL ) the property will fuel the company’s trucks servicing Livingston Parish and the rest of the greater Baton Rouge area.

Waste Management has already begun converting its truck fleet to compressed natural gas.

Gulf Coast-area public sectors manager Warren Guedry says the facility will help the company reduce its fleet emissions and increase fuel efficiency while creating a cleaner environment.

Waste Management says the new vehicles are far quieter and will cut smog-producing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 50 percent compared to the cleanest diesel trucks.

The Houston company already operates over 4,000 alternatively fueled vehicles nationwide.
