Crews inch toward each other as plows clear Trail Ridge Road

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - Plow crews are hoping for sunshine as they work to clear Trail Ridge Road by Memorial Day.

The Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1FiK9SA ) Rocky Mountain National Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says sunshine makes a big difference as snow plows work their way from the east and west ends of the road.

Last week’s rains brought snow to some higher elevations, but Patterson said plow workers were mostly impacted by wind and snow drifts that can reach 18 to 22 feet.

The 48-mile scenic highway reaches 12,183 feet at its highest peak. Weather varies even after the road is opened, and conditions can close it at any time during the season.
