DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The city of Davenport has reached settlements with more residents who sued after raw sewage backed up in their basements in 2013.
Lawyer Mike Meloy told the Quad-City Times (https://bit.ly/1B1Kcx9 ) on Friday that 10 residents he represents settled for a total of $98,500. That brings total settlements with Meloy’s clients to $127,000.
The settlements announced Friday ranged from $13,000 to $16,500.
All of the plaintiffs own homes on a Davenport street where up to 2½ feet of raw sewage entered their basements after heavy rain.
The lawsuits were set to go to trial this month.
Davenport Finance Director Brandon Wright says the homeowners would have received about the same amount through a city reimbursement program, minus the attorney fees. That program has a $7,500 per building limit.
