DETROIT (AP) - An artist who has produced paintings of President Barack Obama daily since his first inauguration will have the work-in-progress displayed in Detroit.

Rob Pruitt’s “The Obama Paintings” debuts Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. The exhibit consists of roughly 2,300 2-foot-by-2-foot paintings featuring white illustrations on a canvas covered in a spectrum of red-to-blue.

The collection, which features moments ranging from a State of the Union address to a walk across the White House lawn, is designed to comprise 2,922 paintings upon completion.



Pruitt says in a statement that his aim was create “something that views the presidency in its entirety.”

Another Pruitt work - “The Lincoln Monument” - also will be displayed. The work is composed of 200,000 pennies filling three stacked copper painted truck tires.
