PIERCETON, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say the driver is dead after a semitrailer crashed through a building in northern Indiana.

The Kosciusko (kos-ee-OS’-koh) County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened Friday afternoon in Pierceton, about 30 miles west of Fort Wayne.

Deputies say it’s not known why the semitrailer veered off of U.S. 30 and drove through a vacant building. The semitrailer left a gaping hole in the building.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s name was not immediately released.

Deputies say a dog that also was in the semitrailer survived the crash.
