NEW YORK (AP) - Young dancers from five New York City public schools are the stars of a documentary airing on local PBS stations.

The hourlong “PS Dance!” premieres Friday on WNET Channel 13 and will air later on WLIW and NJTV.

Paula Zahn hosts the documentary that was produced in collaboration with city Department of Education officials.

Paul L King, head of the department’s office of the arts, says the growth of dance programs in the city is a testament to the value of the arts.

In conjunction with the film, the producers are launching the Dance for Every Child movement to encourage schools to add dance programs.

Dance for Every Child will provide instructional resources developed in New York to school districts across the nation.
