BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Police say an assistant football coach and teacher’s aide in eastern Pennsylvania had sex with a 15-year-old student last year.
Twenty-nine-year-old Adam Bednarik of Bethlehem was charged Friday with statutory sexual assault and related counts. He was released on bail.
Authorities say Bednarik began flirting with the girl in late 2013, then sent her inappropriate texts and a nude photo of himself. Police say they had sex last August.
His attorney, Gary Asteak, declined comment on the charges but urged the public to wait for the facts before passing judgment.
Bednarik was suspended without pay from the Bethlehem Area School District.
He was a star football player at Bethlehem Catholic High School and later played at West Virginia University.
