SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona is back home with his wife after serving more than four years in prison for witness tampering.

His attorney, Mike Schroeder, tells the Orange County Register (https://bit.ly/1A8a538 ) that the 59-year-old Carona was released Wednesday from a federal prison medical center in Kentucky.

The attorney says Carona was then sent to a halfway house in Garden Grove and finally released to his home in Orange. He was eligible for home confinement because of good behavior.

His sentence is up on Nov. 8.

Carona was sheriff for nine years but was convicted of corruption in 2007.

He was moved from a Colorado prison to the Kentucky facility because of hip problems from a 2005 on-duty car accident that resulted in a worker’s compensation settlement.
