DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta police chief is on administrative leave during an investigation into excessive force allegations.

Douglasville City Council voted Thursday to put police Chief Chris Womack on paid administrative leave during an investigation into the March 2 arrest of a man who fled police and crashed on I-20.

WSB-TV reports court records show Womack was involved in the chase, but Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials say he’s not the officer being investigated for excessive force.

Attorney Lance LoRusso says city council didn’t need to put Womack on leave to investigate the allegations.

Womack’s leave period is expected to end June 25.
