HAYDEN, Ala. (AP) - The Blount County Health Department is investigating several potential cases of chickenpox at Hayden Primary School.
Multiple news outlets report since May 4 about 30 students in kindergarten, first and second grade have had a rash that closely resembles chickenpox. Principal Kim Harbison says the school is waiting to hear back from student’s doctors about this rash.
She says the school is asking parents to have ill students checked out by their pediatrician and report back if it’s actually chickenpox.
Harbison told the station the school sent 16 kids home on Monday alone.
Parents were notified about the rash through a letter from the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Local physicians and health care providers have been notified to be on the lookout for suspect cases of the illness.
