WARSAW, N.Y. (AP) - A man who prosecutors in upstate New York described as one of the area’s largest heroin dealers is heading to prison.

Authorities say Michael Regatuso II was sentenced to 12 years behind bars Thursday. He’s also been ordered to pay more than $25,000 in fines.

Regatuso had been convicted of conspiracy, criminal sale of a controlled substance and related offenses. Investigators say undercover officers bought heroin from him six times.

Wyoming County First Assistant District Attorney Vincent Hemming says the sentence sends a message that people who “prey on people’s addictions” will be held accountable.
