ST. AMANT, La. (AP) - Residents in St. Amant’s Bayou Estates subdivision are petitioning to have their water system replaced because they say brown water pours from their faucets at least twice a month.
The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1FogA41 ) reports homeowners have documented the brown water on video and complained to Diversion Water Company. Residents say their complaints have been ignored and they have been told the water is safe.
Parrish Valega, owner of Diversion Water, told the paper manganese and iron in the subdivision’s pipes is causing the discoloration.
Officials say the brown water is an aesthetic issue as testing shows the water has good chlorine levels for disinfection.
Diversion Water is sending out an apology letter Friday, promising to reimburse customer water costs and detailing plans to flush the system next week.
