JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Jekyll Island is celebrating the start of the sea turtle nesting season this weekend with a series of races and a family festival.

The island state park Saturday will host its 13th Turtle Crawl Triathlon with three races for athletes of different skill levels. The top race features a 1,500-meter swim, a 29-mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile run.

Saturday afternoon activities will move to Jekyll Island’s new beach village for NestFest, which features educations activities related to sea turtles. Staff from the island’s Georgia Sea Turtle Center will also release a rehabilitated sea turtle back into the wild.

While festival activities are free, Jekyll Island visitors must pay a $6 parking fee per vehicle driven onto the island.
