CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Johnson & Wales University has bought a former marina in Cranston for its sailing and rowing teams.

WPRO-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1A50Xwz ) that the Providence school purchased the former Port Edgewood Marina on April 20 for $2.65 million.

The marina comes with a 10,000-square-foot office building, a more than 23,000-square-foot boat storage facility and 154 boat slips. The 3.2-acre property was originally listed for more than $3 million, according to Denenberg Realty.

Johnson & Wales officials say the marina will house the men’s and women’s sailing teams and the new women’s rowing program, but won’t be used until the 2015-16 school year. Officials say they’re planning to repair the docks over the summer and convert the interior of the building into offices for their coaches and staff.
