ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) - Police say a 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a single punch he threw sent his victim into a coma.

Antioch police said Thursday Etuate Faiva was arrested last week, but the incident occurred on March 21.

The Contra Costa Times reports (https://bayareane.ws/1bTuJZg) Faiva became angry at a 49-year-old man and allegedly punched him in the head, sending him into a coma.

Antioch police Sgt. Tom Fuhrmann says investigators took a while to make an arrest because the only known witness was the victim, who was still in a coma.

Police determined the victim was associated with the local transient population and found some witnesses. Eventually, investigators pieced together enough information to make an arrest.
