DELHI, N.Y. (AP) - A 19-year-old upstate New York man is hospitalized with serious injuries after his minivan hit a 1,000-gallon propane tank at an American Legion hall, causing a large explosion and fire.

The Daily Star of Oneonta reports (https://bit.ly/1PnzAnW ) that police in the Delaware County village of Delhi say Joseph Mueller of Delhi hit the tank at the Legion building around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Leaking propane ignited soon after, causing an explosion and blaze that caused some damage to the building and destroyed two storage sheds and their contents.

Mueller was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Information on his condition wasn’t available.

Police say about 60 people playing bingo inside the hall at the time of the accident were safely evacuated from the building.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
