MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A Montana man who beat his grandmother to death with a chair in 2013 has been sentenced to 60 years in the state psychiatric hospital.

The Missoulian reported Friday (https://goo.gl/DgWssy ) that 26-year-old Tyler Dan Perry was eligible for the state hospital sentence because the court ruled he was unable to appreciate the criminality of his actions during the attack. He pleaded guilty but insane to deliberate homicide in the death of 72-year-old Carole Ann Perry.

The woman was sitting on her couch watching television in her home Dec. 14, 2013, when her grandson inexplicably grabbed a chair and struck her with it repeatedly. Afterward, he went outside and confessed the crime to a tow-truck driver who was working nearby.

He then asked the driver to call police.
