ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - A northwest Alabama man who said he fired a warning shot at a pickup truck has been sentenced to life without parole in a man’s death.
Al.com reports 54-year-old Joel Moyers was in a wheelchair and wearing an oxygen mask when he was sentenced Friday in Limestone County Circuit Court.
Authorities have said Moyers shot at a truck 26-year-old Brandon Hydrick was riding in as he and his brother drove past the trailer Moyer was living in on a rural Limestone County road in September 2012.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely has said the bullet went through the truck’s tailgate and pierced the back of Hydrick’s seat.
Moyers said he was startled by the Hydricks because there had recently been several burglaries in the neighborhood.
