ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend and her nephew after the woman ended their relationship.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1B0PloV ) that Sherry Nelson cried as she described her sister and son to a district judge on Thursday.
Brian Pulliam pleaded no-contest to the August 2012 killings, in which 36-year-old Kirsten Landeau and 20-year-old Dillon Cearfoss were shot in a home they shared with Nelson.
Nelson says her sister introduced Pulliam to the family when he was recently released from prison and trying to turn his life around.
Pulliam did not speak. His attorney said he took the plea to spare his family the prospect of a trial.
She described Pulliam’s personal tragedies and said he was likely traumatized by years in solitary confinement.
