WHITEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The body of a Brunswick County woman missing for more than two weeks has been found in Whiteville in Columbus County.

The sheriffs of Columbus and Brunswick counties tell multiple news outlets that the body of 26-year-old Alicia Marie Deans of Leland was found in a wooded area on Wednesday.

Authorities say Deans was last seen by family on April 28. They reported her missing two days later. Deans told family members she was going to see a friend in Columbus County.

Columbus County Sheriff Lewis Hatcher says a cause of death has not been determined and that Deans’ death is considered suspicious.

Both sheriffs say any charges will come from Columbus County. The investigation is ongoing.
