JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A one-year reauthorization for a tax that provides a large chunk of funding for Missouri’s Medicaid program is headed to Gov. Jay Nixon’s desk on the final day of session.
The House voted 133-13 on Friday to approve the bill, shortly after it passed the Senate unanimously.
The measure extends taxes on medical providers - including hospitals, nursing homes and ambulances - that generate $3.6 billion for Medicaid services in the state.
Approval in the Senate came after Democrats there relented in their efforts to block all votes because of frustration over the passage earlier this week of a bill limiting union powers.
The Senate adjourned after the Medicaid bill passed while the House continued to work before the 6 p.m. deadline to pass legislation.
