NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The city of Natchez is currently soliciting letters of support for additional docking at Roth Hill.

A grant application is due to the U.S. Department of Transportation June 5.

Community Development Director James Johnston tells The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/1HjdLS6 ) that to increase Natchez’s odds of receiving the $10 million officials are asking restaurant owners, hotels and other tourism interests to write letters of support for the application.

Johnston says with riverboat traffic increasing, the city more dock space to accommodate extra vessels.

The proposed floating dock would sit at the bottom of Roth Hill and feature railings that connect to the river’s edge to the dock. The dock could simultaneously hold two river vessels.

There is currently one dock located in the underthehill area that can hold one vessel.
