Off-duty soldier accidentally shoots himself in leg

DENVER (AP) - Police say an off-duty soldier accidentally shot himself in the leg with a handgun in Colorado Springs.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/RuVlWM ) officers were called to an area near Memorial Park on Friday afternoon and found that the 30-year-old man, who serves in the Army, did not notice a round was in the chamber when he was checking the 9 mm handgun.

The soldier, whose name has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital.

No other details were released.
