STRASBURG, N.D. (AP) - The State Historical Society of North Dakota is gathering public comments about the management and interpretation of the Lawrence Welk homestead.

The society scheduled a community meeting Friday in Strasburg, the boyhood home of the famous band leader.

The Legislature two years ago included $100,000 in the society’s budget to buy the home. Earlier this year, lawmakers agreed to pay for maintenance and other costs at the home, to the tune of $50,000 annually.

On July 1, the 6-acre Welk homestead outside of Strasburg will become a state historic site managed by the society.

Community conversations about the homestead also are set June 30 in Napoleon and July 14 in Ashley.
