SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle Police Department has spent nearly $300,000 in overtime to put a stop to the May Day riot.
KING-TV reports (https://kng5.tv/1cDty0S ) that the information released by the department does not include the cost of broken equipment, officer injuries or supplies to control the crowd like flash bang grenades and chemical agents.
Incident Commander Capt. Chris Fowler says the march turned from a demonstration to a riot when the crowd started assaulting police. Nine officers were injured and sixteen protesters were arrested.
This year’s estimate of more than $288,000 spent is up more than $12,000 from last year’s riot, and is likely to stand as debriefings continue.
