DETROIT (AP) - Street artist Shepard Fairey is coming to Detroit to paint a large mural on a downtown building.
The 184-foot-tall by 60-foot-wide mural is planned on One Campus Martius. It’s is being financed by businessman Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock Real Estate Services, which owns the building. Fairey is scheduled to arrive Saturday and work is expected to take about nine days.
Fairey tells the Detroit Free Press (https://on.freep.com/1cDbbsV ) that: “The thing I love in Detroit is that despite the financial woes there’s always been a real appreciation for art.” Detroit emerged in December from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.
Meanwhile, Fairey also will paint a smaller mural while in Detroit. And the Library Street Collective gallery plans a show of his work starting May 22.
