VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - Not guilty pleas have been entered for a Valparaiso University student charged with faking a hostage situation at the school, sparking a large emergency response.
Twenty-year-old Michael Clemens of Chesterton made his initial court appearance Friday on felony counts of intimidation and false reporting. The Times of Munster reports (https://bit.ly/1KSqYPD ) Porter Superior Court Judge Roger Bradford also set a Nov. 9 trial date.
Authorities have said a man called police April 21 saying he had a gun and had taken hostages. More than 50 officers and agents from federal, state, and local agencies responded to the incident.
An affidavit says a police officer who listened to a tape of the call recognized the voice of the caller as that of his cousin, Clemens, who admitted making the call.
