SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) - Police are searching for leads after a registered thoroughbred horse valued at over $10,000 was found dead in Syracuse, about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.

Investigators say the owner last saw the brood mare alive late Wednesday afternoon, but they think the animal was killed within a few hours before officers were sent to the scene late Thursday afternoon.

The horse was found lying on the ground with a wound to its side and removed by Davis County Animal Control personnel.

Police are asking for the public’s help in the case.
