THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a doctor and her husband have been arrested in connection with the death of an elderly patient who was given morphine.

The Ventura County Star reports (https://bit.ly/1FbZ8N9 ) that officials with the county Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit arrested 54-year-old Ellen Crowe and 61-year-old Paul McQuillan on Thursday.

The Thousand Oaks couple owns and operates a business known as House Call Doctor Thousand Oaks, where 88-year-old Polly Duntley was a patient.

Last year, McQuillan, who has no official medical training, went to Duntley’s Camarillo home and injected her with morphine. A technician also came to the home and administered an ultrasound on the woman. She died in a hospital a few days later.

Authorities say the couple secured bail and are scheduled to be arraigned in court May 27.
