TOWNSHEND, Vt. (AP) - A tiny Vermont hospital is participating in various initiatives that administrators say will help the hospital increase its energy efficiency.

Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend made an agreement last year with the Green Lantern Group to be a part of its net-metered project. The group is building a 500-kilowatt solar panel in Pittsford and the hospital will buy power from the group at a discounted rate for the next two decades.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (https://bit.ly/1A4AYoL ) the hospital also plans to install a new roof with better insulation.

This is the latest step in the hospital’s three-year efforts to become more energy efficient.

Grace Cottage facilities director Scott Hitchcock says the hospital has seen 10 percent savings on electricity due to those upgrades.
