BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State University’s wildlife hospital is releasing a juvenile bald eagle brought in by a wildlife agent after Pierre Part residents reported that it seemed to be listless.
Veterinary school spokeswoman Ginger Guttner says veterinarians plan to release it Friday at Lake Verret in Napoleonville.
Guttner says X-rays and blood tests did not find any broken bones, toxins or infectious diseases.
The eagle was mildly dehydrated. Guttner says subcutaneous fluid, rest and plenty of fish helped it regain strength.
The bird’s head is not fully white, indicating it’s a juvenile.
Guttner says it was brought in April 21 from a spot near Bayou Tranquille (trahn-KEY) in Pierre Part, 11 miles west of Napoleonville.
Napoleonville is a 50-mile drive south from Baton Rouge, or 40 miles south as the eagle flies.
