COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A 29-year-old Columbus woman has been convicted of second degree murder in the 2013 fatal stabbing for her boyfriend.
According to local media reports, Chaddy Brooks was convicted Thursday by a Lowndes County jury in the death of 37-year-old Danielle Gore at an apartment they shared in Columbus.
Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens sentenced Brooks to 40 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Brooks stabbed Gore, her boyfriend, while the two were fighting the morning of Nov. 22, 2013. Brooks testified that a text message she found from another female on Gore’s phone sparked the argument.
Brooks testified that, during the confrontation, she hit Gore multiple times and later grabbed a kitchen knife. She said the two then struggled for the knife and she accidentally stabbed him.
