OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Geoffrey Yoste of Oxford is withdrawing from the race for Northern District transportation commissioner.

Yoste was one of three candidates challenging incumbent Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert in the August Republican primary.

Yoste, who has worked on the staffs of former Gov. Kirk Fordice and former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1H7osBS ) he is supporting Tagert in his re-election effort.

Tagert still will have opposition in the Republican primary. Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson and Jimmie Mills of Lee County are on the ballot.

Danny Woods of Winona is the only Democrat in the race and will advance to the November general election.
