CHICAGO (AP) - Gunmen firing from a SUV shot and injured an 81-year-old Chicago woman and her grandson as they were taking a break from a memorial service for the woman’s deceased daughter.
Relatives say Iola Burress was shot four times Friday afternoon as she and her grandson stood on the porch of the family’s home in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. She was expected to have surgery Saturday.
Her grandson, 34-year-old Sylvester Burress, was also shot and hospitalized.
The family was mourning Iola Burress’ daughter, who died after heart surgery.
Relatives say they don’t know why gunmen shot at the family.
