MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - While an intensive ground search has ended, authorities continue to track leads in the search for a man who shot and wounded a sheriff’s deputy at a Moncks Corner gas station.

Dozens of law enforcement agents searched an area south of Moncks Corner through the day Friday for the man who wounded Berkeley County Sheriff’s Lt. Will Rogers late Thursday night.

Authorities tell local media outlets they have several leads and are pursuing tips that have come in since the shooting. More than 50 officers and two helicopters participated in the Friday search.

Rogers was in critical condition following surgery Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Authorities say the shooter, wearing a mask, shot the deputy before hijacking a car that was found abandoned about two hours later.
