BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Bad weather postponed opening day at Les Bois Park.

General manager Duayne Didericksen said in a statement posted on the track’s website Saturday that the decision was necessary to protect the health of the horses and the jockeys.

Though the meet will be delayed, the track almost didn’t open at all this season. A bill in the Legislature would have eliminated historical racing machines, which allow gamblers to wager on previously run races. The money from those machines subsidizes live racing.

Gov. Butch Otter’s veto of Senate Bill 1011 allowed the season to proceed.
