DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The body of a man who could have died years ago was found inside a house sold in recent months for unpaid taxes.

Des Moines police were called to the home Thursday afternoon after employees of Neighborhood Finance Corporation, which bought the home, found the badly decomposed body on a living room couch.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the man’s identity, but believe he was the 57-year-old owner of the home. Neighbors told police that the man almost never left the home and even had his food delivered to the house. Neighbors said the man had not been seen in more than a year.

Police said the latest mail found inside the home was dated April 5, 2012.

Police say foul play is not suspected in the man’s death.
