CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The co-author of a book on the man whose story was told in the Oscar-winning movie “12 Years A Slave” is giving a talk this weekend as part of a local group’s history event.

Retired New York state librarian David Fiske will speak Saturday morning at the Saratoga County History Faire in Clifton Park.

Fiske will discuss the trial of the two men who were arrested for allegedly luring Solomon Northup from Saratoga Springs in 1841. Northup was taken to the South and sold into slavery. He spent 12 years as a slave on a Louisiana plantation before he was freed.

The alleged kidnappers were later charged and spent months in jail, but their trial in Ballston Spa ended without a conviction when the case eventually collapsed.
