WEST BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - State police have arrested a Cape Cod school bus driver on a drunken driving charge after a student called her mother to say he was driving unsafely.

Sixty-two-year-old Everett Redmond Jr. of Brewster was arrested Friday charged. He is to be arraigned Monday on charges of drunken driving and child endangerment. It’s not immediately known if he has a lawyer to comment.

Police said the high school student told her mother she was getting off the bus at the next stop because of the man’s driving. Her mother called police. Troopers found the bus at a Burger King parking lot on Route 6 westbound. Police said about five students still were aboard.

Cape Cod Regional Technical High School superintendent Robert Sanborn said another bus took the students home. He said the student and her mother are “heroes.”
