MONARCH, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have identified a state transportation employee who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash near the base of Monarch Pass.

The State Department of Transportation says 61-year-old David Morris joined the agency 2011.

The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of a semitrailer heading east down the pass on U.S. Highway 50 caused the crash in a construction zone Friday afternoon.

Authorities say eastbound traffic was stopped so westbound traffic could proceed through the construction site. The semitrailer did not stop and crossed into the westbound lane, hitting a passenger truck that hit a dump truck, killing Morris. Another vehicle was hit after the initial crash.

The semitrailer driver was seriously injured.
