PHOENIX (AP) - A coalition says drownings in Maricopa County are down in the first four months of 2015 but that it’s no time to be complacent.

Figures released by the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona say there were six fatalities through April - half of the 12 drowning deaths in the first four months of 2014.

The coalition says its members speculate that the difference may be due to hotter temperatures in early 2014, which might have attracted more people to water.

Coalition board member Melissa Sutton says awareness and education efforts should be ramped up because the Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner.
